  • NOAA's Environmental Literacy Grants Program. Deadline May 12, 2005
  • Acres for America. The Acres for America program was established to provide funding for projects that conserve important habitat for fish, wildlife, and plants through acquisition of interest in real property. The goal of the Acres for America program is to offset the footprint of Wal-Mart’s domestic facilities on at least an acre by acre basis through these acquisitions. Approximately $3.1 million will be available annually for 10 years for conservation investments.
Annual pre-proposal deadlines are January 7, May 13, and September 17.
  • Forest Legacy Program. Deadline May 27, 2005
  • The Family Forest Fish Passage Program provides 75%-100% of the cost of replacing, repairing or removing fish barriers such as culverts, weirs, dams, spillways and other artificial instream structures. To qualify, you must be a small forest landowner (harvest less than 2 million board feet of timber per year) and have a fish barrier that is on forestland. Application Deadline: June 30, 2005
  • National Fish Passage Program is a voluntary program that reconnects fish species to historic habitats. Project funding is for fish passage restoration by removing or bypassing barriers to fish movement. Primary project types include dam removal, culvert renovation, designing and installing fishways, installing fish screens, and barrier inventories to identify additional fish passage impediments. Projects proposals requested between $1,000.00 and $50,000.00 are most attractive. There is no required match; however a 50% cost share is highly encouraged. Fish Passage projects are not eligible for funding if fish passage is a condition provided by existing Federal or State regulatory programs. For more info, click here or contact Ginger Phalen, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 510 Desmond Dr. SE, Suite 102, Lacey, WA 98503, (360)753-5819 (P), (360)753-9008 (F), ginger_phalen@fws.gov
  • The National Coastal Wetlands Grants program just released the due date and application materials for Fiscal Year 2006 funding. The due date to Washington DC is June 13, however, in Region 1 of the FWS (which includes Washington State) they will set an earlier due date to the Regional Office in Portland (probably mid-end May), so that they have a chance to pre-review the proposals and provide feedback to the sponsors for suggested changes to make the proposals more competitive. If interested, contact Ginger Phalen, U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 510 Desmond Dr. SE, Suite 102, Lacey, WA 98503, (360)753-5819 (P), (360)753-9008 (F), ginger_phalen@fws.gov
