Applying for 2006 7th Round SRFB grants

  • Proposed new funding mechanism. There is a good possibility that the SRFB will henceforth allocate "block grants" to the various regional recovery organizations (of which there are six including Shared Strategy and the HCCC). These regional recovery organizations would then decide which projects to fund within their geographic area. For more details, see
  • Shared Strategy. Shared Strategy is the regional recovery organization whose geographic area includes WRIA 17, 18 and WRIA 19. If the block grant mechanism goes forward, it would henceforth be the "Shared Strategy Expanded Development Committee" (existing of 34 yet-to-be-identified members), who would decide what projects to fund, at least relevant to Puget Sound Chinook but perhaps all SRFB projects within its geographic area. For more details, see these Shared Strategy documents:
  • IMPORTANT Your Project Proposal. Shared Strategy is moving ahead as if the block grant funding mechanism has already been adopted. To that end, Shared Strategy is requesting preliminary first-draft three-year lists of priorities from local watersheds by March 31 2006. Therefore, anybody who is anticipating submitting a project proposal for SRFB funding within the next three years should make sure that project is included in the list. Go to project details to submit for further instructions.
  • Your Opinion. The SRFB has appointed its member Steve Tharinger to head its "7th Round Issues Task Force" which will advise the SRFB on whether to adopt the block grant funding mechanism and what the funding mechanism will be for projects relevant to non-listed salmon ESUs. If you have any input or questions, please contact Steve Tharinger directly by calling him at 417-2233 or by sending him a letter at 223 E. 4th Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
