Salt Creek Habitat Project Assessment (Funded
2001)
Current Status: Active
Through the project elements of habitat survey, analysis, activity list
prioritization, landowner contract, and concept development, the partners
and the community will address the issues of habitat restoration and protection
on a watershed scale. This assessment is clearly identified in the WRIA
19 Limiting Factors Analysis as needed for all watersheds. Salt Creek is
one of the few Tier 1 watersheds without a completed Priority Activities
and Concepts List per the NOBLE Strategy. The habitat survey will address
a variety of LF noted across WRIA 19 while focusing on the specific needs
of the Tier 1 Salt Creek watershed for habitat protection and restoration.
Providing a comprehensive approach to recovery of physical and biological
processes necessary for properly functioning salmon habitat in a formal
biological and physical context will greatly enhance project partners'
(including Tribal, RFEG, WDFW and Conservation District) efforts to design,
fund and implement restoration and protection projects on a watershed scale.
The project addresses needs of the wild coho stock while addressing habitat
loss for cutthroat, chum and steelhead. The project's outreach efforts
will help establish a sense of watershed stewardship among landowners and
residents in the Salt Creek system.
