Dungeness Water Conservation for Instream Flows (Funded 2000)
Current Status: Active

The project will improve salmon habitat by increasing instream flows, (especially during critical low flows), by piping irrigation canals with proven high losses in the Dungeness watershed WRIA 18, Clallam Co. Lowering temperatures by increasing flows & volumes will improve water quality; piping canals will eliminate the introduction of coliform/other pollutants into the Dungeness. The project will benefit all Dungeness River salmon stocks including listed Dungeness Chinook, Summer chum, & Pink and Bulltrout. Proposed projects are high priority from "D.R.A.W.U. Comprehensive Water Conservation Plan". The project is sponsored by Dungeness Valley Agricultural Water Users Assoc. and Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe, and can begin immediately for completion by 12/31/2000. Preliminary design/engineering is completed; construction will be within existing rights of way; no additional permits required. A SEPA checklist was completed for the Conservation Plan.

State dollars will be used for contracted labor, materials/equipment/project management, and project success monitoring. The Association and Tribe will provide engineering, inspection, some labor and equipment. This project is identical to others completed that have increased irrigation efficiency, resulting in quantifiable amounts of water left instream
