Tri-Irrigation Re-Regulation Reservoir (Funded 2002)
Current Status: Active

This project is a Re-regulation Reservoir and pressurized piping system as described on page 30, item 4 (a,b) of the NOPLE Project Strategy (V.002) and on pages 6-3 and 6-4 of the Montgomery Water Group Comprehensive Water Conservation Plan. The project will construct a complete water storage and distribution system for 670 acres of farmland in the Port Williams area.

The benefits of this project are:

  • Enhancement of in-stream flows by decreased withdrawals.
  • Increase fish habitat in the Dungeness River below RM 6.0.
  • Construct a model for other re-regulation projects that are recommended for the Dungeness River.
  • Facilitate the use of low pressure irrigation systems to further improve irrigation efficiency.

This restorative project is located in a tier 1 basin and its elements are prioritized as #6 and #10 by the NOPLE Project Strategy. In addition, insufficient in-stream flows were identified as a limiting factor for fish production in the Montgomery Plan. This project is estimated to decrease withdrawals from the Dungeness by 3.0cfs during the irrigation season of April 15 to Sept. 15, and to improve habitat for all fish species in the lower 6 miles of the river. This habitat enhancement will be particularly valuable to the Puget Sound chinook, summer chum and bull trout as they are ESA listed as threatened, as well as the summer steelhead and fall pink which are considered critical by the NOPTRG.
