This project is a component of a larger restoration effort for Jimmycomelately Creek, located in eastern Clallam County (WRIA 17). The overall strategy includes the relocation of the creek to its historic channel location and restoration of portions of the estuary. The Creek channel alignment was altered in the 1920's or 1930's, resulting in a loss of gradient, fluvial energy and sediment transport capability. Channel aggradation and severe habitat loss have resulted in low flows, channel instability, fish passage blockage, scour and fill of redds, and increased flood frequency/severity causing landowners to further channelize the creek.
Restoration of the Jimmycomelately Creek mouth and estuary interface has been under discussion for two years by an ad hoc interagency and property owner work group, including the Tribe, County, Conservation District, WDFW, EPA, USFWS and others. The Clallam Conservation District has funding for construction of a new channel in the summer of 2000. JimmyComeLately Creek would be relocated from its present diked and aggraded river channel from approximately River Mile 0.25 to the mouth.
Acquisition of the Eng property is an essential component of the overall plan to relocate the creek. It would allow the creek to be moved, establish a functional riparian corridor and flood plain at the mouth, and restore summer chum. The landowner is a motivated and willing seller.
