NOLE Geographic Area The NOPLE area extends from Sequim Bay west through Cape Flattery and from Cape Flattery south through the Hoh River. It encompasses 1462 salmon river miles and 227 coastal miles located within 90 independent watersheds and 2 unique coastal systems (Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Pacific Ocean) over 2,330 square miles, with management under two counties, three cities, five native tribes, 3.5 WRIAs (20, 19, 18 and part of 17), a National Park, a National Forest, a NOAA Marine Sanctuary, a USFW wildlife refuge, extensive State trust lands, and, of course, individual ownership, including extensive large and small timber companies. Current planning efforts relevant to NOPLE include four ESU-level salmon recovery plans, three WRIA-based Watershed Plans, the NOPLE Habitat Recovery Strategy, and the NOPLE Nearshore Strategy.
